On January 31, 2024, the consortium of McDermott and Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW) was
awarded a contract from North Oil Company (NOC) to deliver engineering,
procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) for the Ruya
package 11 comprised of nine satellite wellhead platforms and jackets with a
total weight of more than 90,000 metric tons. The Ruya development project,
located offshore Qatar, is the next phase of development of Al-Shaheen field,
Qatar’s largest oil field.
QMW will be
responsible for project management, procurement of bulk materials, fabrication,
mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, weighing, loadout and sea-fastening
of nine wellhead platforms and jackets while McDermott’s scope of work includes
project management, detailed engineering, procurement of tagged equipment,
transportation, offshore installation, hook-up and commissioning. This
collaborative approach based on shared responsibility ensures that both
partners can leverage their individual strengths effectively in order to
achieve optimal results. The project commenced in Q4 2023 with the final
topside scheduled for sail away during Q1 2028.
“These awards build on our successful
execution of the front-end engineering design (FEED) project—one of the largest
FEEDs in McDermott’s 100-year history—completed in just over 12 months,” said
Mike Sutherland, McDermott’s Senior Vice President, Offshore Middle East. “We will continue to earn the confidence of QatarEnergy
and TotalEnergies by delivering strategically significant energy infrastructure
projects in the Middle East.”
"We have been on this journey with NOC
since our Doha operating center started the pre-FEED in 2021,” said Neil
Gunnion, Qatar Country Manager and Vice President, Operations. “This team of
experts will now lead the execution of EPCIC work, leveraging their robust experience
and in-depth knowledge of Qatar’s offshore sector for the successful expansion
of the Al-Shaheen field."
“We are extremely proud to be a part of
this groundbreaking project in Qatar, which serves as a testament to our
unwavering commitment to delivering excellence in all our endeavors. We express
our gratitude to QatarEnergy and North Oil Company (NOC) for entrusting us with
this opportunity and eagerly anticipate successfully completing the project on
schedule with 'ZERO Defect and ZERO Hurt,' alongside our partner McDermott,"
stated Qiuzhe Li, General Manager of QMW.
